The digital application “Georgia Agricultural Climate Service” (GEKSA) is available in the Shida Kartli and Kakheti regions
The presentation of the application, which provides farmers with recommendations for carrying out agricultural activities based on weather conditions, was attended by the Deputy Director of the Rural Development Agency, Giorgi Avaliani, and the National Coordinator of the Early Warning Systems Project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Ketevan Skhireli.
The application will help farmers implement preventive measures while managing their farms in order to reduce risks caused by weather variability.
The application includes recommendations prepared by sector specialists regarding agro-operations to be carried out in the target regions, Shida Kartli and Kakheti, within the framework of the project, to support quantitative and qualitative growth of selected crops, namely apples, grapes, peaches and nectarines, wheat, and corn.
The digital agro application was created within the framework of the programme “Expansion of Multi-Hazard Early Warning Systems and Use of Climate-Related Information.”
At the meeting, the parties involved in the programme summarized the activities implemented.
The programme is part of the project “Reducing Climate Change-Induced Disaster Risk in Georgia,” which is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Representatives of the National Environmental Agency, the Agricultural Research Center, and the Rural Development Agency attended the closing event.
