In order to promote the development of non-agricultural entrepreneurial activities in rural areas, a rural development program was implemented. The main goals of the program are to stimulate the economic development of the municipality, to improve the socio-economic situation, economic diversification and job creation, to overcome the challenges related to the environment and climate change, and to use natural resources efficiently.

The program was implemented with the financing of the European Union (EU) "European Neighborhood Program for Rural and Agricultural Development" (ENPARD) and the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

Under the program, from 2020 to December 31, 2021, 53 unique contracts were signed with 52 unique beneficiaries. The investment amounted to GEL 8,049,896, of which GEL 5,604,441 was co-financed by the contracted agency.
